Temporary - Full-Time Planner 2 - Policy Planning

An exciting full-time, temporary (one-year) opportunity is available immediately for a senior policy planner to work as part of our Sustainable Community Development planning team. You will apply your extensive land use and policy planning background to oversee important land use planning projects for town centres through to the development of plan policies for incorporation in the District’s new Official Community Plan (see www.identity.dnv.org for more information on current our OCP Review Process). Town centre planning projects will encompass sound planning and urban design principles towards the development of more sustainable and complete communities.  You will be responsible for managing the work of consultants engaged in these planning projects, providing updates to internal and external Steering Committees, organizing public consultation sessions, refining design guidelines, developing policies to support town centre area concept plans, and writing reports with recommendations for Council’s consideration.  This work will require a solid understanding of land use and policy planning principles and sustainable community development practices.  Urban design expertise is also desirable.

Your educational qualifications include University graduation plus a postgraduate degree complemented by progressively more responsible professional experience in land use/policy planning and urban design preferably gained in a municipal environment.  A minimum of five years of professional planning experience is desirable.  Membership or eligibility for membership with PIBC or AIBC, and a BC Driver’s License are required.  You will possess excellent project management and problem solving skills and solid computer knowledge.

The hourly pay range for this Union position is $39.22 - $46.44 with a 35-hour work week, flexible work hours and attractive benefit package.  Use of a personal vehicle for District business is useful, but not required.

Requirements:

  • The right candidate must have Canadian experience with years of solid broad based architectural experience & should have LEED Accreditation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills along with an excellent command of the English language– both written and verbal.
  • Proficient use and experience with ACAD is required; Revit knowledge an asset.

Our firm’s current projects include – comprehensive commercial/residential developments, building conversions, civic & educational projects, hospitality, single and multi-family residential.
