Intern Courses

Mandatory Professional Development Courses

To supplement the knowledge obtained through work experience and as detailed in section 9.0 of Appendix B, Intern Architects in British Columbia are required to take at least 6 one-day seminars during the course of their Internship on a variety of topics pertaining to architectural practice in British Columbia. Seminars are offered at least once every 9 months and Interns are advised to contact the Institute for a current course schedule in order to plan and register in advance.

Examination Requirements

Every provincial association requires Interns to pass the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) nine Architect Registration Examinations (ARE) during the course of their Internship. Upon acceptance in the IAP, the AIBC will automatically enrol you to begin writing the NCARB Architectural Registration Examinations and you may begin writing as soon as you think you are ready. NCARB will send you an information package and you will register to write examinations directly with NCARB at one of the local testing centres. Results of the examinations are sent to the AIBC and we record your results and forward then them to you.
