Intern Mentoring ProgramSelect a Mentor to Advise and Guide and Obtain Acceptable Employment A Mentor must be selected and confirmed as part of the application process. The Mentor must be an architect or retired architect who is not a principal/shareholder or employee of the Employer's firm, or as excepted in Appendix B, section 8.0. Employment is not required to enroll in the IAP, however, employment will be required to progress through the work experience component of the program. An employer, for the purposes of the program, must be an architect who is a principal/shareholder or an employee of an architectural firm, or in other eligible employment situations as defined in the IAP Manual (see section 2.4). If engaged as an independent contractor or employed on a part-time basis by more than one Employer during the same period, the Intern will be considered an employee (for the purpose of the program only) and will be required to obtain confirmation of employment letters from each Employer. Prior to accepting employment, it is the Intern Architect's responsibility to ascertain that the employment will provide the required scope of experience and that the experience situation will be approved by the AIBC. Prospective employers or mentors may refer to the Employer and Mentor Guidelines for more information about their roles in the program. Intern Architects seeking employment are encouraged to visit the Job Opportunities bulletin on the AIBC web site frequently. You can also research architectural firms by viewing member firm profiles and web sites available through our Find an AIBC Member searchable online directory.
